About Jan Conn

Jan Conn studied painting with Canadian painter Anne-Marie Buchmann-Gerber in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan from 2014-2015 and has exhibited her work in Toronto; Albany, NY; Cedaredge, Colorado; and Western Massachusetts. Her paintings are in private collections in Shanghai, Medellin, Lima, Nashville, Marblehead, Montreal, Vancouver, and near Perth, Ontario.

She is interested in openings in landscapes, associative and diagonal processes, visual and color fields, light and shadow, dream imagery, memory maps, whimsy, imagined spaces, intuitive drawing, biology in general and trees in particular, visual poetics, organic and geometric form, random markings, icebergs, and roadside attractions.

Her tenth book of poetry, Peony Vertigo, is forthcoming from Brick Books, Canada, in the fall of 2023. She is a member of the collaborative writing group, Yoko’s Dogs, whose most recent book is Caution Tape, Collusion Press, 2021.

Born in southeastern Quebec, Jan Conn received her Ph.D. in Genetics from the University of Toronto. She has lived in Montreal, Vancouver, Toronto, Guatemala, Caracas (Venezuela), Gainesville (Florida), and Burlington (Vermont). Since 2002 she has been living in western Massachusetts, conducting research on insects that transmit pathogens as a Research Scientist at the Wadsworth Center, Division of Infectious Diseases, New York State Department of Health in Albany NY. She is also Professor in the Department of Biomedical Sciences at the School of Public Health, SUNY-Albany. She lives in Great Barrington, MA.
